Random Thoughts….post-vacation edition…

I returned from a two-week vacation to my former/ancestorial home region of Northern California. Here are some random thoughts:

  • The day light sky on the West Coast is subtlety but noticeably different than Kentucky. I suspect its due to the dominate climate force being the ocean and the jet stream.
  • Lake Tahoe remains one of my very favorite places on the planet.
  • Traffic is worse in the Bay Area than it was when I left 22 years ago….and it sucked back then. To be fair, traffic has worsened here in the Cincinnati area, but it is still nowhere near as bad as California.
  • For me, nowhere on this planet is more haunted by memories than Sonoma County. It feels like I have a memory linked to every square mile of that county.
  • While Vallejo, California continues to decline economically, it still has the best burger place on the planet (i.e. Bud’s).
  • I miss the Pacific Ocean, redwood trees, the Central Valley’s dry heat, and the Sierra Mountains greatly.
  • The Bay Area will always be home to me. But no regrets moving to where I’m at now.
